Exclusive Radio Scarborough interview with Keith Christmas by Cressida Ford
Exclusive Keith Christmas interview with Cressida Ford's 'Almost Acoustic' 28/09/20.
Keith Christmas recorded his first album 'Stimulus' back in 1969 when he also played acoustic guitar on David Bowie's first album 'Space Oddity' and appeared at the first Glastonbury Festival. Throughout the seventies he recorded four more albums 'Fable of the Wings', 'Pigmy', 'Brighter Day' and 'Stories From the Human Zoo' while touring with and supporting acts like The Who, King Crimson, Ten Years After, Frank Zappa and Roxy Music
Keith formed a blues band 'Weatherman' in 1991 with some friends and an album of the same name was released in 1992.
In 1996 a new album 'Love Beyond Deals' was released on HTD Records.
In January 2003 Keith released his first instrumental CD, 'Acoustica' - the opening track was used on the BBC documentary 'Hidden Gardens'.
In 2006 he completed his first ever solo CD 'Light of the Dawn'. In 2011 he then released a 5-track solo acoustic EP: 'Fat Cat Big Fish' and in 2012 released his first live CD 'Live at the Pump.' In June 2015 Keith took some time out in France and started writing again. Two weeks later, with seven songs partly created he came back to England and finished the album that would become 'Crazy Dancing Days' within 10 months.
Early versions of 8 songs from that album were posted on YouTube, SoundCloud and Fandalism and were being played over 47,000 times. 14,000 of those plays were for 'Cross the Water' - an appeal for tolerance to refugees.
'Crazy Dancing Days' was released in December 2016 to excellent reviews, both from the press and those who purchased the CD.
Keith’s most recent album, 'Life, Life' was released on 1st September 2019 and that year proved very successful for him with exceptional reviews of the album, solid sales and regular gigs secured. 2020 looked to be heading in an even more successful direction until Covid -19 struck and all live performances came to an immediate halt. As with all live performers, Keith was, and continues to be, affected by this.
However, Keith has tentatively secured six dates in various venues throughout the UK next year, where he will recommence performing the gigs that came to such an abrupt end in March of this year. The material he plays at these gigs is a mixture of the songs he has created, or had a hand in creating, over the five decades of his career. From songs from Bowie’s 'Space Oddity', to songs from his early albums such as 'Fable of the Wings', all the way through to his most recent offering the wonderful 'Life, Life.'
At Radio Scarborough we are privileged to have Keith joining Cressida Ford for an interview as part of the Almost Acoustic show which will air exclusively on Radio Scarborough at 8pm on Monday 28th September. There are options for paying via Paypal or debit/credit card. Once you have purchased your ticket, you will have access to the event for the following 30 days!! So even if you’re busy on 10th October, that needn’t stop you from buying a ticket as you can watch it at your leisure.
We really believe it’s necessary to emphasise just how prodigiously talented Keith Christmas is, and mention what a travesty it is that he is not better known. He has a number of fans at Radio Scarborough and his tracks are often played on 'Almost Acoustic' which is why we are so thrilled that he agreed to give us this interview.
If you’re not familiar with him and his music why not check him out on YouTube or a similar free streaming platform and get acquainted with him before his interview with Cressida Ford airs on Monday 28th September.
This would be a great place to start. A live video recorded on 11th March 2020 just before ‘lockdown’ stopped all live performances:
